Item Description
Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this western-styled single-action revolver for a penny-start auction; this is the Colt Frontier Six-Shooter (Bisley Model)!
The Colt Bisley was first introduced in 1894 as a target pistol and was named after the famous firing range in Bisley, England. You can recognize the Colt Bisley by its longer grip, wider hammer spur, and wider trigger. The Bisleys were assigned serial numbers in the range of 156300–331916, which follows the same sequence as the Single Action Army. This revolver would be a great addition to any collection, whether you plan to display it as-is or restore it!

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt Frontier Six-Shooter (Bisley Model) represents a distinctive variant within Colt’s legendary single-action revolver lineup, combining the proven mechanics of the Single Action Army with design features tailored for improved target shooting. Introduced in the mid-1890s, the Bisley Model was named after the famous Bisley shooting range in England, where precision marksmanship competitions were widely held. Colt adapted the Frontier Six-Shooter concept—typically chambered in popular centerfire calibers like .44-40—into the Bisley configuration, giving shooters a revolver with a lower, widened hammer spur, a more steeply angled grip, and a refined trigger geometry that supported more controlled firing. Produced from 1894 to 1915, the model quickly earned recognition among marksmen and those who appreciated a revolver optimized for accuracy while still retaining the classic Colt aesthetic.

Over its production span, the Bisley Frontier Six-Shooter appealed to a wide range of users, including competitors, ranchers, and early 20th-century outdoorsmen who valued a revolver that balanced rugged reliability with improved shootability. The revolver’s distinctive grip shape and handling characteristics made it noticeably different from the standard Single Action Army, and its specialized features gave it a niche but loyal following. Today, surviving examples are highly sought after by collectors due to their relatively limited production numbers, unique profile, and their association with an era when revolver design was evolving to meet new expectations for accuracy and ergonomics. The Frontier Six-Shooter marking, combined with the Bisley configuration, places these revolvers among the more desirable Colt variants for enthusiasts of historic American firearms.
