Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this stunning semi-automatic pistol for a penny-start auction; this is the Colt Model 1908 Pocket Hammerless Type III!
The Type III Colt Model 1903 Pocket Hammerless in .380 ACP, produced between 1910 and 1926 and serial numbered from 6,252 to 92,893, was distinguished by the absence of a barrel bushing. This marked a design shift from earlier models while retaining the concealed hammer for a snag-free, compact profile ideal for concealed carry and maintaining classic features such as the manual and grip safety.
According to the owner, this example is Santiago Leis master engraved and is in Unfired Condition!

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt Model 1903 Pocket Hammerless is a .32 ACP caliber, semi-automatic pistol designed by John Browning and manufactured by the Colt Patent Firearms Manufacturing Company of Hartford, Connecticut. Introduced in 1903, the Model 1903 is notable for its "hammerless" design, although it actually features a concealed hammer that is hidden beneath the rear of the slide. This design innovation allows for quick, snag-free draws from a pocket, making it ideal for concealed carry. The Model 1908 Pocket Hammerless, introduced five years later, is a variant chambered in .380 ACP, retaining the same compact, reliable design with only a slight difference in bore diameter and a seven-round magazine, one round more than the Model 1903.

During its production run from 1903 to 1945, approximately 570,000 Colt Pocket Hammerless pistols were made in five different configurations. Some of these pistols were issued to U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force general officers during World War II and continued in service until the 1970s when they were replaced by the RIA Colt M15. The hammerless feature was largely a marketing term to emphasize the pistol's suitability for concealed carry, and the action is still operated by a hammer striking a firing pin to ignite the primer of the cartridge. The pistol includes two safety mechanisms—a grip safety and a manual safety—with the grip safety integrated into the back strap of the pistol. A magazine safety was also introduced in later models, preventing the pistol from firing when the magazine is removed.
The Colt 1903/1908 Pocket Hammerless was equipped with fixed sights, with the rear sight being drift-adjustable for windage. The grip panels could be made of black checked hard rubber, checked walnut, or special-order materials such as ivory or mother of pearl. In 1944, the design was updated with enlarged sights and an increase in the number of slide serrations from 17 to 19, allowing for 1911 tooling to be used in production. The metal finishes were typically blued or nickel, with special orders available in finishes such as engraved or gold- or silver-plated. The Type III models produced between 1910 and 1926 featured an integrated barrel bushing and a 3.75-inch barrel. These pistols remain a piece of Colt history, valued for their combination of elegance, reliability, and ease of carry.
