The Springfield Armory Custom 1903, originally manufactured in 1920, represents a classic military rifle that has been extensively sporterized and modernized for hunting and long-range use. Built on the robust Model 1903 bolt-action platform, this example has been rebarreled with a 20-inch P/M Guns barrel and rechambered in .308 Norma Magnum, a powerful cartridge known for its flat trajectory and strong downrange performance. The blued finish maintains a traditional appearance while preserving the steel components, blending vintage military heritage with post-war custom rifle craftsmanship.
 
Configured for optical use, the receiver has been drilled and tapped and fitted with a scope base and rings, reflecting its conversion from iron-sight service rifle to a precision-oriented sporting arm. The smooth hardwood Mannlicher-style stock with a raised Monte Carlo cheekpiece enhances both balance and shooter comfort, providing improved cheek weld for scope alignment. Overall, this custom 1903 illustrates the adaptability of the Springfield action, combining historical origins with custom features suited for modern hunting or target shooting, and stands as an example of the mid-20th-century trend of transforming surplus military rifles into high-performance sporting firearms.
