Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt Police Positive Target (Second Issue, Model “C”) is the target-oriented member of Colt’s early 20th-century Police Positive family — a small-frame, swing-out-cylinder double-action revolver redesigned into a slightly beefier Second Issue frame beginning in 1926. The Target “C” is most often encountered with a 6-inch adjustable sighted barrel and was chambered primarily in .22 rimfire variants (including .22 Long Rifle and .22 WRF) and small-bore centerfire options (.32 Long, .32 Colt New Police), depending on year and market; it retained Colt’s Positive Lock safety and the familiar six-shot cylinder. Externally, the Second Issue Target is recognizable by its heavier frame, serrated topstrap to cut glare, and—on many late 1920s–30s examples—nice checkered walnut grips and either bright blued or nickel finishes as ordered. The model was produced from roughly 1926 into the early 1940s and is frequently cited as weighing in the mid-20-ounce range (about 26 oz. in many listings) with roughly 28,000 Target examples produced across the run, making it a well-represented but collectible Colt target variant.

On the range, the Police Positive Target “C” earns praise for its excellent balance, controllable recoil (especially in .22 form), and an adjustable rear sight that allowed serious bull-seaters and recreational target shooters to get good use out of a relatively compact revolver. Its double-action capability with a crisp single-action break when cocked made it versatile for both precision slow-fire and quicker timed strings; however, as a dedicated target piece, it is somewhat compromised by its small frame compared with full-size target revolvers, so most enthusiasts value it today as a lightweight, accurate plinker and an attractive period Colt rather than as a modern competition tool. Collector considerations include bore and timing condition, originality of sights and grips, finish wear (nickel examples oxidize differently than blued guns), and correct Second-Issue frame features (topstrap serrations, heavier frame dimensions). Properly tuned and in good condition, the Model “C” Target remains an enjoyable, historically interesting little revolver that bridges Colt’s service revolver lineage with a practical target configuration favored by clubs and individuals in the interwar period.
