Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt M1911, adopted by the U.S. military in 1911 and later updated to the M1911A1 in 1926, served as America’s standard-issue sidearm for over seven decades, seeing use in both World Wars, Korea, and Vietnam before being officially replaced by the Beretta M9 in 1985. Revered for its rugged reliability and powerful .45 ACP cartridge, the 1911 earned legendary status among service members. While most commonly associated with U.S. forces, the 1911’s influence extended internationally, most notably to Argentina. One such example, C154916 (issue number No.251), is pictured in Clawson’s reference work, and it is likely that pistols such as C154508 also belong to this rare and historically significant group, though not specifically documented. These early Argentine Navy purchases reflect the nation's early reliance on Colt-manufactured pistols prior to the establishment of domestic production under license for the Model 1927, and later, the development of the Ballester-Molina pistol.
