Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt Officer’s Model, particularly the Officer’s Model 38 (Third Issue) in .38 Special, is a distinguished revolver that has earned its reputation as a premium, high-precision firearm. First introduced in 1904, the Officer’s Model was designed as Colt’s flagship double-action revolver for target shooting, setting the standard for quality and performance. The Third Issue of this model, produced between 1927 and 1949, featured a 6-inch heavy tapered barrel, which was offered as an option beginning in 1935. This barrel configuration enhanced accuracy, making it particularly popular among competitive shooters of the time. The revolver’s blue finish gives it a classic, timeless appearance, further accentuated by the full checkered walnut grips with the iconic Colt medallions, offering both an attractive aesthetic and superior control. This revolver’s adjustable blade front sight and adjustable rear sight made it an ideal choice for precision shooting, whether in target competitions or practice sessions.

The Officer's Model 38 (Third Issue) frame is medium-sized, providing a balanced feel for both single-action and double-action shooting, and it remains a favorite among collectors and shooting enthusiasts for its smooth action and historic significance. The revolver is marked with the distinctive Colt markings, including the "COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. CO." inscription on the top of the barrel and "OFFICERS MODEL 38" on the left side, identifying it as part of the Colt lineage. Notably, the rampant Colt logo is stamped on the sideplate, a symbol of Colt's longstanding reputation for quality firearms. While the Officer’s Model Target was a popular choice for competitive shooters, it was also favored by law enforcement and civilians looking for a dependable and accurate revolver. With its mix of historical value, elegant design, and precise performance, the Officer’s Model remains a cherished piece of Colt’s legacy, epitomizing the craftsmanship and excellence that the brand was known for during the first half of the 20th century.
