Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt Woodsman is a semi-automatic sporting pistol produced by Colt’s Manufacturing Company in the United States from 1915 to 1977. Originally designed by John Moses Browning and refined by Colt’s engineers before its release, the Woodsman quickly earned a reputation as one of the finest .22 caliber target pistols of its era. Browning’s design omitted features such as a grip safety and an exposed hammer—common on his earlier Model 1903 and Model 1911 pistols—since they were unnecessary on a handgun intended for precision sport shooting. Over its production span, the Woodsman went through three distinct series: the First Series (1915–1941), Second Series (1947–1955), and Third Series (1955–1977). Within each series, Colt offered three main variants: the Target Model, Sport Model, and Match Target Model. The Match Target, introduced in 1938, was distinguished by its heavier barrel and unique grip. This model also bore a rollmarked “Bullseye” emblem on the left side, earning it the nickname Bullseye Match Target.
