Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Brno G.33/40 Gebirgsjäger carbine is a compact, historically significant Mauser-action rifle built for mountain troops during World War II. This 1940 first-year production example, serial 5886, is chambered in 8mm Mauser and fitted with a short 19.6" blued barrel and tangent rear with blade front — a configuration that favors portability and quick handling in rugged terrain. Mechanically the rifle benefits from the proven Mauser bolt system, offering robust lockup and reliable function; the shortened barrel and compact overall length made the G.33/40 well suited to the demands of Gebirgsjäger units where weight and maneuverability were critical.

Aesthetically and for collectors, this carbine is notable for its mountain-style features and matching markings. The smooth walnut stock with a cupped “mountain” buttplate, full serial number on the receiver, barrel, and stock spine, and the wartime code “945/1940” stamped on the receiver ring lend both authenticity and rarity to the piece. Marked “G.33/40” on the left side wall, the rifle’s all-matching condition and early production date increase its desirability to historians and collectors interested in German WWII mountain troop equipment and Czechoslovak wartime manufacture.
