The Eureka Sportsman Model 196 is a .22 Long Rifle caliber, six-shot, large-frame single-action top-break pistol recognized for its unique features. It includes individually recessed cylinder chambers and a 6-inch flat-top oval heavy barrel, paired with adjustable front and rear sights that are distinct from other H&R models. The No. 196 features an oversized one-piece checkered walnut grip, and its trigger guard is both heavier and wider than that of the Model 777. The factory-set trigger pull is between 2.5 and 3 pounds, with over-travel adjustment. A curved trigger and heavy straight hammer spur enhance its functionality, while the hammer-mounted firing pin contributes to its design. The grip frame is shaped like a bird's head. The barrel is marked with "HARRINGTON & RICHARDSON ARMS CO., WORCESTER, MASS U.S.A." on the top, "H&R NO. 196 EUREKA SPORTSMAN" on the left side, and "22 LONG RIFLE CTG." on the right side.
