Item Description
Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this collectible bolt-action rifle today for auction, this is the Waffenfabrik Brünn/Brno “945” G.33/40 “Mountain Carbine."
The Gewehr 33/40 (G.33/40) is a German bolt-action carbine developed during World War II from the Czech vz.33 Mauser, produced under German occupation at the Brno arsenal—renamed Waffenfabrik Brünn—and chambered in the standard 7.92x57mm Mauser cartridge. Production ran approximately from 1940 to 1942, with early rifles marked with the factory code “945” and later rifles marked “dot,” along with Waffenamt acceptance stamps. The carbine was issued primarily to Gebirgsjäger (German mountain troops). The estimated total production ranges from approximately 120,000 to 130,000 rifles, after which the factory shifted to producing standard Karabiner 98k rifles. Among collectors and historians, the G.33/40 is recognized as a purpose-built alpine combat rifle that combines Czech engineering with German wartime modification, and surviving examples with original components, markings, and accessories are considered highly sought-after due to their limited wartime production.

The carbine was issued primarily to Gebirgsjäger (German mountain troops). With a barrel length of approximately 19.5 inches and an overall length of roughly 39 inches, the G.33/40 was significantly shorter than the standard Karabiner 98k, yet retained the robust Mauser 98 controlled-round-feed action and a five-round internal magazine. All production occurred exclusively at the Brno facility, and the rifle could accommodate standard German Kar98k bayonets.
