Item Description
Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this incredible semi-automatic rifle today for a penny-start auction, this is the Springfield Armory / Civilian Marksmanship Program M1 Garand “Special Rack Grade”.
The Special Rack Grade is one of the many grades offered by the Civilian Marksmanship Program for its M1 Garand rifles. These rifles are assembled using a combination of original U.S. Government Issue (USGI) components and newly manufactured parts as part of CMP’s refurbishment program. Each example is fitted with a new production American walnut stock and handguard set bearing the CMP cartouche, along with a new production barrel and new web sling. The receiver and many of the remaining components are refinished USGI parts, although certain small components may be newly manufactured replacements. Receivers may exhibit cosmetic wear such as pitting—often visible above the wood line—which reflects their prior military service. These Special Rack Grade rifles were rebuilt to be mechanically sound, allowing shooters to own and shoot one of the most legendary United States Military rifles during World War II.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Springfield Armory M1 Garand stands as one of the most legendary military rifles ever produced, embodying a transformative step in infantry weapon design during the early 20th century. Developed by John C. Garand and officially adopted by the United States in 1936, the rifle gave American forces a decisive technological edge during World War II and continued to serve with distinction through the Korean War. Chambered in the powerful .30-06 Springfield cartridge, the M1 Garand operates via a gas-operated, rotating bolt system that delivers reliable semi-automatic fire under a wide range of battlefield conditions, a major improvement over the bolt-action rifles used by many opposing forces at the time. Its distinctive eight-round en bloc clip system feeds ammunition into an internal magazine and automatically ejects with the rifle’s characteristic metallic “ping” after the final round is fired, a feature that has become iconic among collectors and historians. Manufactured in large numbers by Springfield Armory and other wartime contractors, the rifle features a forged steel receiver, a 24-inch barrel, and a sturdy walnut stock that contributes to both durability and traditional military aesthetics. Weighing just under 10 pounds, the Garand offers a stable shooting platform with manageable recoil and impressive accuracy for a service rifle of its era, aided by its aperture rear sight and long sight radius. Its effectiveness and reliability earned widespread praise, most famously from General George S. Patton, who called it “the greatest battle implement ever devised.” Today, the M1 Garand remains deeply respected not only as a historic artifact but also as a functional rifle still used in competitive shooting events and marksmanship programs through organizations like the Civilian Marksmanship Program, preserving its legacy as both a symbol of American industrial might and a benchmark in military firearm development.
