Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this outstanding semi-automatic rifle today for a penny-start auction, this is the Winchester M1 Garand!
Manufactured in 1942, this Winchester M1 Garand represents the company’s first full-scale production effort, stemming from a contract awarded on September 20, 1939, for 65,000 rifles. The rifles produced under this contract—known as the Second Contract Winchester M1s—carried serial numbers sequentially following the educational order, ranging from 100,501 to 165,500. Production commenced in February 1941, with shipments starting by April, effectively supporting the urgent demand for reliable battle rifles during World War II. These early Winchester rifles were among the first Garands manufactured outside Springfield Armory to see frontline combat service. Like many combat-issued rifles, the majority of these early Winchester M1s were later overhauled during postwar arsenal refurbishment programs, during which original parts were often replaced or refinished.
This particular example features a Remington Arms National Match “NM” op-rod and an LMR 7-53 barrel.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The M1 Garand or M1 rifle is a semi-automatic rifle that was the service rifle of the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War. The rifle was chambered in .30 M1 Carbine and the .30-06 Springfield cartridge and was named after its Canadian-American designer, John Garand. It was the first standard-issue autoloading rifle for the United States. By most accounts, the M1 rifle performed well. General George S. Patton called it "the greatest battle implement ever devised". The M1 replaced the bolt-action M1903 Springfield as the U.S. service rifle in 1936 and was itself replaced by the selective-fire M14 rifle on March 26, 1958.

Manufactured in 1942, this Winchester M1 Garand represents the company’s first full-scale production effort, stemming from a contract awarded on September 20, 1939, for 65,000 rifles. Before this, Winchester produced 500 “educational order” rifles to familiarize its workforce with the M1 design. Even as these educational rifles were still in production, Winchester secured its initial large-scale contract, which laid the foundation for mass production at the New Haven plant. The rifles produced under this contract—known as the Second Contract Winchester M1s—carried serial numbers sequentially following the educational order, ranging from 100,501 to 165,500.
