Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Winchester Model 62 is a classic slide-action (pump) .22 rimfire rifle first introduced in 1932 as the successor to the Model 1906. Built for versatility, it chambers .22 Short, .22 Long, and .22 Long Rifle cartridges interchangeably, fed from a tubular magazine beneath the barrel and operated by an exposed hammer and simple slide action. Winchester offered the Model 62 with a durable blue finish, a 23-inch round barrel, straight-grip walnut stock, and a grooved forearm, making it a favorite with small-game hunters, target shooters, and gallery-range enthusiasts. In 1940, Winchester introduced the Model 62A, which was an internal refinement that replaced the earlier Model 62's original flat mainspring with a coil mainspring and included a few minor bolt and receiver changes to improve durability and serviceability.

Externally, the two models are nearly identical, so collectors often rely on internal parts and serial ranges to tell them apart. Production of the Model 62/62A line continued through 1958, with total output commonly reported at about 409,000–410,000 rifles. Both the 62 and 62A are remembered for Winchester’s careful fit-and-finish, straightforward takedown design, and dependable rimfire performance.
