Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The CZ 52, commonly known by its Czechoslovak military designation vz. 52 is a semi-automatic pistol developed in the early 1950s by Jan and Jaroslav Kratochvíl for the Czechoslovak military. Manufactured by Ceská Zbrojovka in Strakonice, roughly 200,000 pistols were produced between 1952 and 1954. Chambered in 7.62×25mm Tokarev, the CZ 52 replaced a variety of older domestic and foreign handguns in military service. The pistol employs a recoil-operated, roller-locked mechanism, influenced by the German MG 42, which allows it to handle high-pressure ammunition safely. It features an 8-round detachable magazine, a single-action trigger, and a high bore axis, which contributes to noticeable recoil. Safety features include a manual safety/decocker and a spring-loaded firing pin block. The designation “CZ 52” is used to distinguish the pistol from the vz. 52 rifle, which appeared on the export market before the handgun. After decades of service, the CZ 52 was eventually replaced in Czechoslovak military service by the vz. 82, chambered in 9x18mm Makarov. Though no longer in active service, the CZ 52 remains highly collectible due to its distinctive design, historical significance, and robust functionality.
