Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this ULTRA SCARCE double-action revolver for a penny-start auction; this is the Colt Courier!
The Colt Courier is a much rarer sister model to such classics as the Cobra, Agent, Detective Special, and Diamondback.

According to the included factory Colt letter, this particular example—serial number 26544LW—was shipped on November 23, 1954, to J.L. Galef and Son, Inc., located at 67 Reade Street, New York, New York.

A total of 3,053 Colt Couriers were manufactured between 1953 and 1956, making them one of the rarer post-war Colt revolver models. Produced in limited numbers over a brief four-year period, the Courier is a highly sought-after piece among collectors due to its scarcity and unique place in Colt’s lineup during the mid-20th century.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt Courier is one of the lesser-known yet historically significant revolvers in Colt’s post-war lineup, produced in very limited numbers from 1953 to 1956. Built on the lightweight aluminum “D” frame, the Courier was Colt’s answer to the growing demand for compact, easily carried sidearms for both personal defense and law enforcement use. Closely related in design to the Colt Cobra, the Courier offered similar styling and handling but with a distinct twist—it was available exclusively with a 3-inch barrel, a unique choice that offered a balance between concealability and ballistic performance. The revolver was finished with a rich blue on the steel components and a bright blue-black anodizing on the aluminum frame and other lightweight parts, giving it a sleek, modern appearance for the era. Its clean lines and utilitarian design made it ideal for discreet carry, while its construction demonstrated Colt’s commitment to innovation during a time when the use of lightweight alloys in firearms was still relatively novel.

Chambered in either .22 Long Rifle or .32 Colt New Police (.32 S&W), the Colt Courier catered to shooters looking for a mild-recoiling, compact revolver for casual target shooting, small game, or self-defense. Notably, some of the .32 caliber variants were equipped with aluminum cylinders, further reducing the overall weight of the firearm and pushing the boundaries of Colt's lightweight revolver engineering. However, the aluminum cylinders were eventually phased out due to durability concerns, making those examples especially rare today. With only 3,053 units produced over a four-year span, the Courier remains a scarce and desirable collector’s item, particularly in well-preserved condition. Its brief production run, unique configuration, and historical relevance within the evolution of Colt’s double-action revolvers contribute to the Courier’s enduring intrigue among collectors and firearms historians. The Colt Courier not only embodies a transitional moment in revolver design but also showcases Colt's forward-thinking approach to materials and carry-friendly defensive firearms in the mid-20th century.
