Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Beretta Model 950 is a series of compact, tip-up-barrel, single-action, blowback-operated pocket pistols introduced in 1952 and produced until around 2003. Built with an aluminum-alloy frame and a steel slide and barrel, the series was most commonly sold as the .25 ACP “Jetfire” (Model 950/950B) and the .22 Short “Minx” (Model 950CC), with standard magazine capacities of eight and six rounds, respectively, plus the ability to carry a single round in the chamber thanks to the tip-up barrel. Early Italian-made models lacked an external thumb safety and featured an inertial firing-pin/hammer-notch system. Following the 1968 Gun Control Act in the United States, Beretta introduced the 950BS with a left-side manual safety (“Brevettato Sicurezza”) to allow continued importation. The 950 series also included notable variants, such as the stainless-steel 950BS Inox and the 950BS EL (Extra Luxury) with gold-plated small parts and wood grips for collectors, as well as longer-barreled Minx pistols sometimes referred to as the “M4.” Production occurred primarily in Italy, with later models also produced at Beretta’s U.S. facility in Maryland. The 950 family became a long-standing entry in the ultra-compact, small-caliber pocket pistol market, prized for its tip-up barrel, simple blowback design, and reliability.
