Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Remington Model 514 is a single-shot, bolt-action .22 caliber rimfire rifle produced by Remington Arms from 1948 to 1970 as part of its economical postwar rimfire lineup. Chambered to fire .22 Short, .22 Long, or .22 Long Rifle cartridges interchangeably, the Model 514 uses a manually operated bolt, with each round loaded individually into the chamber, emphasizing safety and simplicity. The rifle features a plain walnut stock, basic open sights, and a rugged, utilitarian design intended for youth training, target practice, and small-game hunting. Throughout its production run, the Model 514 was made in several different versions to suit a range of shooters and purposes. These included the Model 514A, the standard rifle configuration; the Model 514P, equipped with a peep (aperture) sight for improved target accuracy; the Model 514BC (“Boy’s Carbine”) and 514BR (“Boy’s Rifle”), both youth-oriented versions with shorter stocks and barrels; and the rare Routledge Bore variant, a smoothbore model designed to fire .22 caliber shot loads. These variations made the Model 514 suitable for beginners, smaller shooters, and specialty uses. Today, the Model 514 is regarded as a vintage and practical example of mid-20th-century American rimfire rifles, appreciated by collectors for its durability and straightforward design.
