Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Winchester Model 100 is a semi-automatic rifle that was manufactured by Winchester Repeating Arms Company from 1961 to 1973. Known for its sleek design and impressive accuracy, the Model 100 was one of the most advanced sporting rifles of its time. With a total of approximately 262,838 units produced, it became a popular choice among hunters and shooting enthusiasts. The rifle was available in three calibers: the powerful .308 Winchester, the lighter .243 Winchester, and the rare .284 Winchester, which was a short-action substitute for the .270 Winchester.

The Model 100's design was heavily influenced by the earlier Winchester Model 88, a lever-action rifle that had been produced from 1955 to 1973. The transition from lever-action to semi-automatic was seamless in terms of styling; if modern design tools like Photoshop had existed back then, the shift from the Model 88 to the Model 100 would have been a simple matter of replacing the lever with a bolt handle. The Model 100 featured a 22-inch barrel (or 19-inch for the carbine version) and weighed in at 7.5 pounds, making it both durable and manageable in the field. While the .308 Winchester was by far the most popular caliber, the Model 100 was also known for its smooth, reliable operation and accuracy, making it one of the standout rifles of its era. Despite its relatively short production run, the Model 100 left a lasting legacy as a highly regarded semi-automatic rifle.
