Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Ruger Bearcat is a compact, single-action .22 Long Rifle six-shot revolver first introduced by Sturm, Ruger & Co. in 1958 as a lightweight “kit gun” designed for hikers, campers, and outdoor enthusiasts. The original first-issue Bearcat featured a one-piece aluminum-alloy frame with a steel unfluted cylinder roll-marked with Ruger’s stylized bear-and-cougar design and the words “RUGER BEARCAT.” Typical examples had a 4-inch barrel, weighed approximately 17 ounces, and measured roughly 8 7/8 inches overall. Production of the alloy-frame Bearcat continued until around June 1970, after which Ruger introduced the all-steel “Super Bearcat” in 1971, produced in limited numbers into the early to mid-1970s. The model was later reintroduced in 1993 as the New Bearcat, now built on a steel frame with Ruger’s transfer-bar safety, while continuing to offer a variety of finishes, barrel lengths, and limited editions that often retained the distinctive unfluted, roll-marked cylinder that has become a hallmark of the Bearcat line.
