Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Beretta Silver Snipe was produced in 1955–1967 (Italian date/proof codes through XI to XXIII) and is a hammerless, boxlock over-and-under shotgun manufactured in Gardone Val Trompia (often marked “Gardone V.T”). It was offered primarily in 12- and 20-gauge, with 28-gauge examples made in smaller numbers, and common barrel lengths were 26", 28", and 30". Silver Snipes were normally fitted with fixed chokes (typical combinations reported include Full/Full, Full/Modified, and Modified/Improved Cylinder) and used extractors only (no ejectors). Positioned as an economy/field-grade member of Beretta’s mid-century S-series over/unders, the Silver Snipe was valued for simplicity and reliability rather than high decoration. Finally, while the S-series (of which the Silver Snipe was a part) evolved into the later 680/Silver Pigeon families, the Silver Snipe itself is not the identical action used in those later, more refined 680/Silver Pigeon models — it occupies an earlier, more basic point on the same developmental line.
