Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Remington Model 552 Speedmaster is a blowback-operated, self-loading, semi-automatic .22 rimfire rifle introduced by Remington in 1957, designed by L.R. Crittendon and E.W. Hailston. It uniquely accepts .22 Short, .22 Long, and .22 Long Rifle cartridges interchangeably in its tubular magazine beneath the barrel, with capacities of up to 20, 17, or 15 rounds, respectively. The rifle features a streamlined appearance thanks to its low-profile left-side bolt handle, open adjustable sights, a 3/8" dovetail for scope mounting, and a trigger-guard-mounted safety. The standard model was produced from 1957 to 1988, and in 1966, a 150th Anniversary edition was released with special receiver stamping. The BDL Deluxe model continued production thereafter, upgrading the stock to high-gloss walnut with checkering and a Monte Carlo comb. The Model 552 Speedmaster has earned a lasting reputation for its reliability, handling, and versatility—especially celebrated for being one of the tube-fed .22 autoloaders able to fire all three .22 cartridge types without modification.
