The Colt Single Action Frontier Scout “Missouri Sesquicentennial” is a limited-edition commemorative produced in 1970 to mark the 150th anniversary of Missouri’s statehood, distinguished by its unique features and limited commemorative nature. The Missouri Sesquicentennial featured a blued barrel and cylinder paired with an aluminum alloy frame, accented with gold-plated components, including the cylinder, hammer, trigger, ejector rod, and loading gate. These single-action revolvers were issued with serial numbers ranging from 1MOS through 3000MOS. This particular example bears the serial number 1631MOS, making it 1,631 out of the 3,000 produced.

Colt reintroduced the Single Action Army (SAA) revolver in 1955, reviving interest in the classic Western-style handgun. While the SAA remained popular, Colt recognized a growing market for smaller, more affordable rimfire revolvers, especially in .22 caliber, which were gaining popularity for target shooting and small-game hunting. To meet this demand and compete with Ruger in the rimfire segment, Colt developed the Frontier Scout in 1957. The Frontier Scout was slightly smaller than a full-size SAA, produced at approximately 7/8th scale, and weighed around 24 ounces, making it more manageable for younger shooters or those seeking a lightweight, versatile revolver. Its compact size, combined with Colt’s reputation for quality, helped the Frontier Scout quickly become a favored choice among recreational shooters and collectors alike. Over the years, Colt produced a wide range of configurations and variants, often distinguished by frame material, finish, grip type, and barrel length. Early Q and F series revolvers featured aluminum alloy frames in either duo-tone or blued finishes. Later, K and P series incorporated Zamak (zinc-aluminum) frames with a variety of grips, including plastic, walnut, and synthetic stag-lite.
