The Ithaca 37 Featherlight shotgun is a classic, fast-handling field gun that blends elegant styling with practical performance, representing one of the most refined evolutions of the long-running Ithaca 37 shotgun platform. Its lineage traces back to a 1915 patent by renowned firearms designer John Moses Browning, originally developed as the Remington Model 17 shotgun, and later refined by the Ithaca Gun Company to compete with the widely used Winchester Model 1912 shotgun. With key improvements by Ithaca designer Harry Howland—including simplification of the firing and ejection systems—the design was ultimately released in 1937 after patent delays, incorporating the now-signature bottom-loading and bottom-ejecting action that keeps the receiver sides closed to the elements and contributes to the smooth, reliable pump-action operation seen in this example. Introduced during the hardships of the Great Depression and on the eve of World War II, the Model 37 endured to become one of the longest-running pump-action shotgun designs ever produced. The Featherlight variant builds upon that legacy as a lighter, more responsive configuration, and chambered in 20-gauge with 2 3/4-inch capability, it offers excellent balance and reduced recoil, ideal for extended time in the field. Its 28-inch barrel with a fixed modified choke provides versatile patterning for both upland birds and waterfowl. A bright orange fiber-optic front sight provides quick, intuitive target acquisition in changing light conditions. 
 
Aesthetically, this Featherlight reflects the traditional craftsmanship long associated with Ithaca, featuring a deep blued finish paired with a gloss-finished walnut buttstock and forend, both accented by fine fleur-de-lis checkering for a secure grip and refined appearance. Enhancing its sporting character, the receiver is tastefully engraved with a waterfowl scene on the left side, while an upland game scene on the right, tying together its functional versatility with classic field gun styling.
