The Colt MK IV/Series 70 Government Model is one of the most iconic commercial versions of the legendary 1911 platform produced by Colt's Manufacturing Company. Introduced in 1970, the Series 70 Government Model represented Colt’s effort to refine the classic design of the Colt M1911 while maintaining the core engineering created by renowned firearms designer John Moses Browning. Chambered in .45 ACP and built on a full-size steel frame with the traditional five-inch barrel, the pistol retained the single-action trigger system and short-recoil, locked-breech operation that had already proven itself through decades of military and civilian use. The defining technical feature of the Series 70 models was the collet-style barrel bushing, a spring-fingered bushing designed to automatically center the barrel within the slide during lockup, which improved mechanical accuracy without requiring the extremely tight tolerances of custom match pistols.
