Serial: 40099K73
Date of Manufacture: 1973

Finish: Blue
Barrel Length: 20"

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Browning BLR is a modernized lever-action designed to bring the strength and versatility of centerfire cartridges to a classic operating style. Unlike traditional tubular-magazine lever guns, the BLR uses a detachable box magazine, which allows safe use of spitzer (pointed) bullets and opens the platform to high-velocity hunting calibers such as .243, .308, .22-250, and even magnum rounds. Its rack-and-pinion geared lever and bolt system is built to handle higher-pressure cartridges reliably, and the unusual design where the trigger moves with the lever helps prevent the shooter’s finger from being pinched when closing the action—small but thoughtful ergonomics that make the BLR both robust and user-friendly.

This 1973 Belgian-made example chambered in .308 Winchester combines that sturdy, modern lever-action engineering with traditional refinements: a 20" blued barrel, hooded blade front with adjustable rear sights, and checkered walnut stock and forearm. The shorter barrel and .308 chambering make it a compact, hard-hitting choice for woodland or brush hunting where quick handling matters, while the walnut furniture and quality blue finish give it a classic, well-finished appearance. The Belgian production run (FN assembly in the early 1970s) adds a touch of historical interest for collectors, and mechanically, the BLR’s combination of detachable magazine, geared lever action, and strong lockup makes it a practical, versatile hunting rifle that bridges traditional form with modern ballistic capability.
