The Texas Ranger Commemorative Model 19, celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Texas Rangers (1823-1973), is a distinguished edition of the renowned Smith & Wesson Model 19. This limited-production revolver, with only 10,000 units manufactured in 1973, showcases several unique features that emphasize its commemorative nature. The Model 19 in this series is equipped with a 4-inch barrel, a red ramp front sight with a white outline, and a target hammer paired with a smooth trigger, enhancing its precision and handling. Additionally, it features a counterbored cylinder and a pinned barrel, ensuring durability and accuracy. Markings on the barrel proudly display "Texas Rangers," further underscoring its significance. The serial numbers of Model 19-3, ranging from TR1 to TR10000, denote its limited production run and its importance to both law enforcement history and collectors. Of the 10,000 units produced, only 8,000 were accompanied by a commemorative Bowie knife, adding a rare and valuable element to this already prestigious edition.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson Model 19 is one of the most iconic double-action revolvers in American firearms history, renowned for its balance of power, size, and handling characteristics. Introduced in 1955 and developed in collaboration with legendary lawman and firearms expert Bill Jordan, the Model 19 was designed to deliver the power of the .357 Magnum cartridge in a revolver that was lighter and more compact than the large N-frame revolvers like the Model 27. Built on Smith & Wesson’s medium-sized K-frame, it featured a six-round cylinder, adjustable sights, and a choice of barrel lengths—most commonly 2.5, 4, and 6 inches—making it versatile for both duty and sporting use. Law enforcement agencies across the United States rapidly adopted the Model 19, appreciating its controllable recoil, smooth double-action trigger pull, and superior accuracy. The revolver’s elegant blued steel finish, walnut target stocks, and meticulous fit and finish underscored Smith & Wesson’s craftsmanship during the golden era of revolver manufacturing. From a technical and historical perspective, the Model 19 represents a pivotal bridge between the heavy revolvers of the early 20th century and the lighter, more modern sidearms that followed. Its use of the .357 Magnum cartridge in a K-frame design pushed the boundaries of what a medium-frame revolver could handle, though it did reveal some limitations over time—particularly with regard to long-term wear when firing a steady diet of full-power magnum loads. Nonetheless, its performance, reliability, and shootability made it a benchmark sidearm for decades, and it remained a mainstay in police holsters until the widespread transition to semi-automatic pistols in the 1980s and 1990s. Today, the Model 19 is highly regarded among collectors and shooters alike, celebrated for its historical significance, mechanical precision, and timeless design. Its continued popularity reflects its enduring reputation as one of the finest revolvers ever produced, embodying the balance of power, elegance, and practicality that defined mid-20th-century American handguns.

Notably, the Texas Ranger Commemorative 1823-1973 edition of the Model 19 features distinctive attributes such as a 4" barrel, red ramp front sight with a white outline, a target hammer, and a smooth trigger. The revolver includes a counterbored cylinder and a pinned barrel, with special grips adorned by unique medallions. Each revolver in this commemorative series bears "Texas Rangers" markings on the barrel and is accompanied by rosewood or walnut grips. Production overruns with a narrowed trigger guard were released as the Model 19-3 in both blue and nickel finishes. Approximately 8,000 sets were sold alongside a Bowie Knife, with an additional 1,950 units offered with presentation cases only. A select fifty units were intricately engraved, denoted as class A, and included both knife and case. The Model 19-3's serial numbers ranged from TR1 to TR10000, reflecting its limited production and historical significance within the realm of law enforcement and collectors alike.
