Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this beautifully done custom double-action revolver for a penny-start auction; this is the Smith & Wesson Model 58, also known as the .41 Magnum Military & Police!

This exceptional example showcases custom craftsmanship by Reeder Custom of Flagstaff, Arizona, featuring intricate and elegant traditional engraving. On the left side of the barrel, you'll find the carefully executed gold-filled "SMITH & WESSON" inscription, a nod to the iconic brand, while the right side of the barrel is engraved with the "41 Magnum" marking, signifying the powerful chambering of this revolver. Two gold-filled bands adorn the rear of the barrel and the cylinder, adding an extra touch of refinement to the piece. The finish of this revolver is a striking combination of blue with color case-hardened accents on the hammer and trigger, enhancing both the aesthetic appeal and overall durability of this beautifully crafted firearm. This custom work by Reeder Custom elevates the Smith & Wesson Model 58 into a true work of art, blending classic design with a personalized, sophisticated flair.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson Model 58 was designed as the duty version of the Model 57, offering a more compact and lighter alternative in the revolver lineup. Essentially a beefed-up version of the Model 10, the Model 58 was chambered in the .41 Magnum, which was originally conceived to be a more powerful option than the .357 Magnum but with less recoil than the .44 Magnum. The Model 58 featured a 4-inch barrel and fixed sights, making it ideal for law enforcement use. However, despite its promising design, the .41 Magnum cartridge ended up being more powerful than anticipated, and its recoil made it less appealing for regular police use. As a result, the Model 58 failed to gain significant popularity during its original production run.

With only 20,287 units produced between 1964 and 1977, the Smith & Wesson Model 58 became somewhat of a rarity, and today, used examples often fetch a respectable price among collectors. In 2008, the Model 58 was re-introduced by Smith & Wesson as part of their Classic line of revolvers, available in bright nickel and blue finishes. Despite its initial lack of widespread adoption, the Model 58 has gained recognition over time for its unique place in Smith & Wesson's revolver history, offering a powerful alternative to other law enforcement revolvers of its era.

Since the early 1980s, Gary Reeder has built a reputation for exceptional craftsmanship in the firearms industry, starting in Tennessee and later moving to Florida before settling in Flagstaff, Arizona, in 1994. Initially operating Reeder Custom Guns (also known as The Pistol Parlor) in a small section of a gun shop, Gary quickly outgrew the space, eventually expanding to a 3,000-square-foot facility with a fully equipped machine shop. His wife, Colleen, now runs The Pistol Parlor, showcasing many of the remarkable custom guns produced by Gary, his son Kase, and their expert team. This specific example is a beautifully customized Smith & Wesson Model 58, featuring intricate traditional engraving, including gold-filled "SMITH & WESSON" and "41 Magnum" markings on the barrel, with additional gold-filled bands on the rear of the barrel and cylinder, all set in a stunning blue finish with color case-hardened accents on the hammer and trigger. Over the years, Gary expanded his expertise from full custom Remington XP-100s and Contenders to crafting over five dozen series of custom revolvers, including cowboy guns and larger caliber hunting handguns, full custom Thompson Center Contenders, G-2s, Encores, large caliber hunting rifles, 1911s, and various one-of-a-kind specialty guns. His work exemplifies a blend of artistry, precision, and functionality, making Reeder Custom Guns a hallmark of excellence in the world of custom firearms.
