Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
In 1878, John M. Browning invented his first single-shot rifle, which started his journey to become the "greatest firearms inventor the world has ever known." This year marks the centennial anniversary of his achievement. To honor this event, Browning created a limited edition of 500 Centennial Superposed Continental sets. This unique set comprises both an over-under shotgun and an over-under rifle. The set includes two interchangeable and balanced sets of barrels that are fitted to a specially constructed 20-gauge Superposed frame. One set of barrels is for the 20-gauge shotgun with 3-inch chambers, and the other set is for the rifle barrels chambered for 30-06 Springfield. It is especially fitting that this Centennial edition is based on John Browning's last invention - the Superposed shotgun. The Superposed is an example of Browning's genius that transcended purely mechanical considerations and entered the realm of aesthetic design. Few other sporting arms have achieved the economy of proportion and complete harmony of components as the Superposed. This is one reason why the Superposed is one of the most favored "canvases" of master gun engravers.

The Centennial Superposed Continental is a unique blend of technology and art, and a fitting tribute to this Centennial Anniversary. It is an example of John M. Browning's complete dominance of form over function. Each of the 500 Centennial Superposed Continental ensembles bears its appropriate serial number 1878C-1 through 1878C-500, which is located beneath the top lever. To protect this unique possession, vintage Browning American's Finest Sports Equipment leather case with brass hardware and three locks is provided with the Continental ensemble. From the breathtaking engraving flawlessly executed by the premier engravers at Browning's Fabrique National engraving facility to the select high-grade American walnut stock with a traditional hand-rubbed oil finish, the Centennial Superposed Continental is one of those rare, uncommon possessions that assures timeless value!
