Regarded by Colt executives as the finest revolver the company ever produced, the Python exemplified unparalleled craftsmanship, featuring meticulous attention to timing, lock-up, and a stunning Royal Blue finish. This revolver is often considered the pinnacle of Colt’s manufacturing capabilities and remains celebrated as one of the finest revolvers ever made, regardless of caliber. Originally offered with a 6-inch barrel, the Python showcased innovative design elements such as a vent rib intended primarily to reduce weight, according to designer Al Gunther, alongside a hollow barrel lug. Over time, the Python was made available in various barrel lengths—2.5, 3, 4, 6, and 8 inches—with some 8-inch models equipped with hunting scopes, making it the first revolver factory-ready for hunting.
