Markings: Standard / The right side of the receiver is engraved with a detailed wildlife scene depicting bighorn rams, framed by elegant scrollwork on both sides that enhances the composition. The Browning BAR Grade III was one of the more refined versions of Browning’s classic BAR sporting rifle, produced during the late 20th century when the company offered several graded levels of finish and engraved artwork. Built on Browning’s proven gas-operated semi-automatic BAR action, examples chambered in 7mm Remington Magnum were configured for serious big-game hunting, and typically featured a 24-inch blued barrel to take full advantage of the cartridge’s velocity and long-range capability. What distinguishes the Grade III is its elegant presentation: the rifle features a French-grayed receiver adorned with detailed wildlife-engraved artwork, commonly depicting elk on one side and a bighorn ram on the other, with the contrasting gray finish highlighting the depth and character of the game scenes. These engraved game scenes give the rifle a distinctly traditional sporting aesthetic while maintaining the rugged functionality expected of the BAR platform. Complementing the metalwork is a gloss-finished walnut buttstock and forend with finely cut checkering, providing both visual appeal and a secure grip in the field. This rifle comes equipped with a respected Leupold Vari-X III 3.5-10x40 hunting scope, featuring a second-focal-plane design and the classic Duplex reticle, which pairs well with the rifle’s intended role as a versatile big-game hunting arm. The result is a rifle that blends Browning’s dependable semi-automatic performance with refined engraved artwork and traditional sporting elegance, making the BAR Grade III both a capable hunting rifle and a visually distinctive piece in any sporting rifle collection.
