Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this Ultra Rare semi-automatic pistol today for a penny-start auction…this is the Smith & Wesson 147-A!

The Smith & Wesson Model 147-A is an exceptionally rare firearm, with only 130 units ever produced in 1979. Of these, just 112 were sold under the Model 147-A designation, making it a highly sought-after piece among collectors and firearms enthusiasts. Its limited production and unique role in Smith & Wesson's development of the Model 559 contribute to its rarity and desirability within the collector’s market.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson Model 147-A, chambered in 9mm, represents a rare and historically significant piece of firearm development. Manufactured in 1979, this semi-automatic pistol was produced as a limited run of only 130 units, with 112 sold to the public. Its primary purpose was to test tooling and manufacturing processes in preparation for the production of the Model 559, which would go on to be one of the company's most popular designs. The Model 147-A features a 4" barrel, ideal for both accuracy and handling, and is built on a robust steel frame and slide, providing durability and weight distribution that ensures steady performance during use. The black nylon checkered grips offer a comfortable, secure hold, even during rapid fire, while the serrated ramp front sight and windage-adjustable rear sight allow for precise aiming, making it a versatile weapon for target shooting and self-defense.

While the Model 147-A shares similarities with the Smith & Wesson Model 59, it has a number of key differences that make it unique. The pistol's frame is thicker forward of the slide stop, a design change that improved strength and stability, and it also features lightening cutouts beneath the grips to reduce weight without sacrificing structural integrity. One of the standout features of this model is its 14-round double-stack magazine, which allows for an impressive magazine capacity in a relatively compact design. Additionally, the pistol is marked with the model number "147-A," which was a modification of an earlier "47" stamping, indicating its place in Smith & Wesson’s testing and development history. With only a small number of these pistols ever produced, the Model 147-A has become a sought-after collector's item, valued not only for its rarity but also for its role in the evolution of Smith & Wesson's iconic line of semi-automatic pistols.
