The Gold Cup is the sister model to such classics as the National Match, Government, and Combat Commander!

According to the factory letter, only 910 units of the Colt Gold Cup Automatic Pistol "DEA Special Edition" were produced. This example is number 693 of 910! The pistol was shipped to Rays Hardware & Sporting Goods, located at 730 Singleton Avenue in Dallas, Texas, on December 5, 1980.

The Colt Gold Cup Automatic Pistol "Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Special Edition" is a limited release commemorating the 50th anniversary of the DEA, with only 910 units produced. Chambered in .45 ACP, the pistol features a 5" barrel and is finished in blue, presenting a classic and elegant appearance. The pistol’s plain rosewood grips are adorned with brass Custom Shop medallions, adding to its distinctiveness. The special edition comes in a walnut presentation case, French-fitted with Tyrol red lining, and is marked with a chemically etched plate on the lid depicting a replica of a DEA Special Agent's badge, flanked by an unfurled banner inscribed with "1930/1980" and "Drug Enforcement Administration/50 Year Special Edition." The right side of the slide is engraved with the DEA badge, the "1930 DEA Special Edition 1980" inscription, and intricate scrollwork, while the left side showcases the American flag and a banner reading "Drug Enforcement Administration," with "50 year" incorporated into the design.
