Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this HIGHLY COLLECTIBLE semi-automatic pistol for a penny-start auction; this is the Colt MKIV Series 70 Government.
 
 
 
The Colt MKIV Series 70 Government 9mm Steyr is an exceptionally rare European-export variant produced in limited numbers between approximately 1981 and 1983, near the end of Colt’s original Series 70 production run. Distinguished by its unique “9MM STEYR AUTO CALIBER” frame markings and chambering, this model was specifically intended to serve niche European markets and was never widely distributed in the United States. 
 
 
 
Featuring classic Series 70 attributes such as the collet-style accurized barrel bushing, blued finish, and standard 5-inch Government configuration, these pistols represent a highly specialized and low-production offering. Due to their scarce production, unusual caliber, and factory originality, surviving examples are seldom encountered and are considered among the most collectible and desirable variations within the Series 70 lineup.

The Colt MKIV Series 70 Government Model represents one of the most iconic and influential iterations of the classic M1911 design, produced during the 1970s and early 1980s. Introduced in 1970, the Series 70 line was developed to modernize Colt’s flagship pistol while preserving the traditional styling and handling characteristics that made the Government Model legendary. One of its defining features was the introduction of the collet-style barrel bushing, designed to improve accuracy by providing a tighter and more consistent barrel-to-slide fit. Chambered in .45 ACP and built on Colt’s full-size steel frame, these pistols retained the proven reliability, balance, and ergonomics that had established the 1911 platform as a benchmark for military, law enforcement, and civilian shooters alike.
 
From a collector’s perspective, the Series 70 Government Model holds enduring appeal due to its transitional role between earlier pre-Series 70 pistols and the later Series 80 variants that incorporated a firing pin safety system.
