Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Marlin Model 39A, introduced in 1939, holds the distinction of being the oldest and longest continuously produced shoulder firearm in the world. Its origins trace back to the Marlin Model 1891, the first lever-action rifle chambered in .22 LR. Over the years, the 39A has undergone minimal design changes, maintaining its reputation for durability and accuracy. In 1953, Marlin introduced the "Mountie" variant, characterized by a straight stock and a shorter barrel. Initially equipped with a 24-inch barrel, the Mountie variant's barrel length was reduced to 20 inches in 1954 to enhance portability. This model became known as the 39M, with 823 units produced in 1958. The 39M was chambered for .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle cartridges, featuring a tubular magazine capacity of 20 Short, 16 Long, or 15 Long Rifle rounds. It also incorporated Marlin's proprietary Micro-Groove rifling, contributing to its exceptional accuracy.

Constructed with forged steel parts and American-grown black walnut, the 39M retained the traditional takedown feature, allowing for easy disassembly using a coin. This feature facilitated convenient maintenance and transport. Production of the 39M continued until 1987, making it a cherished firearm among collectors and enthusiasts. Throughout its production history, the Marlin Model 39 series has been celebrated for its craftsmanship, reliability, and enduring design, solidifying its status as a classic in American firearms history.
