Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Marlin Model 1894M is a distinctive and collectible variant of Marlin’s classic Model 1894 lever-action rifle, specifically engineered to harness the high velocity and flat-shooting characteristics of the .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire (.22 WMR) cartridge while retaining the handling qualities and traditional appearance of a centerfire lever gun. Introduced in the late 1960s, the 1894M was part of Marlin’s effort to offer a rimfire rifle that bridged the gap between small-game plinkers and serious varmint or utility rifles, delivering significantly more range and terminal performance than the .22 Long Rifle. The rifle feeds from a tubular magazine located beneath the barrel and uses Marlin’s smooth, side-ejection lever action, which allows easy scope mounting on the solid top receiver—a notable advantage over many top-eject designs. Typically fitted with a walnut stock and forearm, the 1894M features classic Marlin styling, including a pistol-grip stock, blued steel barrel and receiver, and traditional open sights, though many shooters opt to add optics to take full advantage of the .22 Magnum’s extended effective range. Despite its rimfire chambering, the 1894M maintains the feel and balance of a full-size lever rifle, making it an excellent training platform for shooters who enjoy the ergonomics of lever guns without the cost or recoil of centerfire ammunition. Produced in relatively limited numbers compared to other Marlin models, the 1894M has become increasingly sought after by collectors, valued for its unique rimfire-magnum chambering, quality craftsmanship, and place in Marlin’s lever-action lineage as one of the few true lever rifles built around the .22 WMR cartridge.
