Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this COLLECTOR GRADE set of semi-automatic pistols for auction; these are the Colt Government Model Silver Star!
This exceptional Colt Silver Star set includes consecutively numbered pistols—serial numbers SS00003 and SS00004—making it an especially rare and desirable pair from a strictly limited production of only 1,000 units.
According to the owner and common knowledge, Colt kept serial number #1 and #2 at the factory. Making this set the earliest known examples to surface on the open market.
The purpose of this edition was to introduce the stainless steel configuration to Colt’s product line, offering a durable and modern finish. These pistols are uniquely marked with the special rollmark "SILVER STAR 45" on the left side of the slide and were processed under Colt Factory Order Number 11631, making them a distinctive and collectible variation within the Colt lineup.
According to the included factory letter, this Colt Silver Star Special Edition pistol, serial number SS00004, is one of only 1,000 units produced. Chambered in .45 ACP with a 5" barrel and a stainless steel finish, it features smooth rosewood grips adorned with silver Rampant Colt medallions. The pistol was shipped in a cherry wood presentation case with a French-fitted black velvet interior to the John Jovino Company in New York City on November 29, 1984, making it a highly collectible example from this limited edition run.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt Government Model Silver Star pistols, manufactured in 1984, represent a unique and limited production run that helped transition Colt’s product line into stainless steel construction. At a time when stainless steel firearms were gaining popularity for their resistance to corrosion and ease of maintenance, Colt introduced the Silver Star edition as a way to showcase the durability and aesthetic appeal of this material. Built on the trusted Government Model platform, these pistols retained the classic 1911 design elements, including the 5-inch barrel, single-action operation, and .45 ACP chambering, while offering a modern stainless steel finish that appealed to both collectors and shooters.

What sets the Silver Star pistols apart is their distinctive rollmark, “SILVER STAR 45,” engraved on the left side of the slide—a clear visual cue that this model was not part of Colt’s standard catalog. These pistols were produced under Colt Factory Order Number 11631 and were part of a limited edition, making them particularly desirable among collectors of Colt firearms. The use of stainless steel was relatively novel for Colt at the time, and the Silver Star served as an early demonstration of the company’s ability to innovate while maintaining the heritage of the iconic 1911 platform.
Functionally, the Silver Star maintained the high performance and reliability expected of a Colt Government Model, with the added benefit of a weather-resistant finish suited for both duty and range use. Their rarity, specialized markings, and transitional role in Colt’s manufacturing history give the Silver Star pistols lasting significance in the evolution of the 1911. For collectors and enthusiasts alike, these 1984-manufactured models are more than just functional handguns—they represent a moment when tradition met innovation in Colt’s storied legacy.
