Item Description
Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this scarce double/single-action revolver today for a penny-start auction, this is the Smith & Wesson Model 29-3 “The Silhouette”.
Among the many variants of the Smith & Wesson Model 29, the 29-3 “The Silhouette” stands out as one of the most specialized and collectible factory configurations ever produced. Manufactured for only eight years, from 1983 to 1991, this rare variant was purpose-built for precision metallic silhouette competition, giving it a unique identity among Model 29s. Its defining feature is the legendary 10 5/8-inch ribbed barrel, which provides an extended sight radius, improved balance, and superior stability for long-range shooting. This example includes a four-position adjustable front sight, a Burris 5X scope, and checkered Goncalo Alves target grips, offering an ideal combination of accuracy and handling for competitive shooting. Today, the Model 29-3 “The Silhouette" is a seldom-seen and highly coveted collector's piece.
-This particular example was produced in 1984, which was the second year of production-

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson Model 29 is a double-action revolver chambered in .44 Magnum, featuring a six-round capacity. Manufactured by the American company Smith & Wesson, the Model 29 was offered in a range of standard barrel lengths, including 3, 4, 5, 6, 6 1/2, 8 3/8, and 10 5/8 inches. Additional barrel lengths were available through Smith & Wesson’s Custom Shop or from qualified gunsmiths. Notably, the 5-inch barrel variant includes a full-length underlug. The revolver was produced with two premium finishes: highly polished blue steel or nickel plating. Upon its introduction, the Model 29 was recognized as one of the most powerful production handguns of its time. However, it was later surpassed by revolvers chambered for larger cartridges such as the .454 Casull and .50 Action Express. The Model 29 achieved iconic status through its association with the fictional character “Dirty Harry” Callahan, cementing its place in both firearm history and popular culture.
