Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Wassenaar Arrangement Semi-automatic Rifles, commonly known as WASR-series rifles, are Romanian-designed gas-operated semi-automatic rifles imported into the United States by Century International Arms. These rifles are manufactured at the Cugir Arms Factory in Romania and serve as a semi-automatic variant of the Pistol Mitraliera model 1963/1965, which is a licensed adaptation of the Soviet AKM assault rifle. The GP WASR-10/63 features a newly manufactured single-stack receiver and a chrome-lined barrel, making it cosmetically similar to the GP WASR-10. However, while the GP WASR-10 is constructed with entirely new components, the GP WASR-10/63 incorporates parts from a former Romanian military rifle, with the exception of the barrel. The original year of manufacture, along with the serial number of the original rifle, is engraved on the left side of the trunnion, which is visible where it protrudes through the receiver. These dates can range from the early 1960s to the 1980s, and most small metal parts carry the last few digits of the original serial number. As with other WASR models imported to the U.S., Century Arms modified these rifles to accept standard 30-round magazines. To comply with U.S. regulations, components such as the pistol grip, trigger group, slant muzzle brake, and gas piston were replaced with American-made substitutes.
