Item Description
Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this ULTRA SCARCE semi-automatic pistol for a penny-start auction; this is the Colt MKIV Series 80 Commanding Officer's Model.
The Colt MKIV Series 80 Commanding Officer’s Model is an exceptionally rare and highly collectible variant of Colt’s compact 1911 line, prized for its blend of classic design, lightweight construction, and enhanced safety features. Based on available production research, it is estimated that only approximately 500 examples were manufactured, making this model ultra scarce and seldom encountered on the open market. This extremely limited production, combined with its historical significance and practical defensive design, has made the Commanding Officer’s Model one of the most desirable modern-era Colt pistols among serious collectors and investors alike.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt MKIV Series 80 Commanding Officer’s Model is a compact, semi-automatic pistol that blends the classic design and proven reliability of the M1911 platform with modern safety enhancements and practical carry dimensions. Introduced in the early 1980s, this model features a shortened slide and barrel assembly paired with an aluminum alloy frame, resulting in a lightweight and easily concealable sidearm suitable for both law enforcement and civilian defensive use. Chambered primarily in .45 ACP, the Commanding Officer’s Model incorporates Colt’s Series 80 firing pin safety system, which provides an added margin of drop safety without significantly altering the traditional single-action trigger feel. Typical features include fixed combat sights, a spur hammer, short grip safety tang, and traditional 1911-style controls, offering familiar ergonomics and straightforward handling.

From a historical and collector standpoint, the Series 80 Commanding Officer’s Model represents an important transitional phase in Colt’s production, bridging traditional craftsmanship with evolving safety standards and modern manufacturing methods. These pistols gained a strong reputation for durability, accuracy, and reliability, particularly in concealed carry and duty roles. Today, original examples in high condition, especially those retaining factory finishes, correct parts, and original packaging, are increasingly sought after by collectors of Colt and 1911-pattern firearms. Their combination of classic styling, practical performance, and historical significance within Colt’s lineage makes the Commanding Officer’s Model a respected and desirable variant among both shooters and enthusiasts.
