Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Smith & Wesson Model 57 is a double/single-action revolver chambered in .41 Magnum. Introduced in February 1964, it is built on the square-butt N-Target frame with three screws and was offered in both blue and nickel finishes. The revolver features a six-shot counterbored cylinder with a nominal length of 1.75" and is available with 4", 6", or 8-3/8" barrels. Sighting consists of a 1/8" red ramp front sight mounted on a ramp base, paired with a micrometer-click white-outline rear sight. Additional features include a barrel with a raised serrated rib, shrouded extractor rod, .500" target hammer, and either a .400" or .500" target trigger. The revolver has a 10-groove serrated backstrap and forestrap, and the original models displayed a large S&W trademark on the sideplate. In 2005, a “Mountain Gun” variation was introduced with a 4" barrel, incorporating CNC manufacturing technology, an internal lock, and a new frame design. This model was later included in the S&W Classic series in 2009, again with a 4" barrel and available in blue or nickel finishes. The Model 57 was originally produced from 1964–1993, with additional runs in 2005 and 2009.
