Item Description
Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this GORGEOUS lever-action rifle for a penny-start auction; this is the Browning Model 71 High Grade!
This is a Browning Model 71 lever-action rifle featuring a 24” barrel and chambered in the powerful .348 Winchester. A faithful reproduction of the original Winchester Model 71, this rifle was produced in 1987 as part of a limited edition High Grade run, with only 3,000 units manufactured. Designed as an evolution of the Winchester Model 1886, the Model 71 simplified caliber offerings by introducing the .348 Winchester—a cartridge developed to replace multiple earlier chamberings with a single, versatile round. While fully capable as a big game hunting rifle even today, this example’s excellent condition and limited production make it an especially desirable piece for collectors of Browning firearms or classic lever-actions.
According to the owner, this example is in Unfired condition.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Winchester Model 71 is a distinguished lever-action rifle with a legacy deeply rooted in the evolution of American big game hunting firearms. Introduced in 1935, the Model 71 was essentially an updated and streamlined version of the legendary Model 1886, built to accommodate the newly developed .348 Winchester cartridge. This powerful round was designed to replace a broad range of older chamberings—from .33 WCF to .405 Winchester—offering hunters a single, hard-hitting cartridge capable of taking down large North American game such as elk, moose, and bear. The Model 71 featured a strong, long-action receiver, excellent balance, and the classic Winchester smoothness in operation. Though production of the original Model 71 ceased in 1957 due to the rising popularity of bolt-action rifles and more modern calibers, it remained highly regarded for its power, durability, and traditional craftsmanship.
In 1986, the Winchester Model 71 High Grade was reintroduced in a limited edition run of just 3,000 rifles, manufactured in partnership with Browning. This reissue preserved the mechanical integrity and aesthetic charm of the original while enhancing it with elegant upgrades. The High Grade model featured a beautifully scroll-engraved grey receiver with gold inlays, a gold-plated trigger, and a richly figured deluxe walnut stock and forearm, finely checkered and finished with a deep, high-gloss sheen. These decorative elements elevated the rifle from a purely functional hunting tool to a highly collectible piece of firearm artistry. Chambered once again in .348 Winchester, the rifle retained its formidable performance characteristics, making it not only a nostalgic tribute but also a capable field rifle. However, due to its limited production and refined finish, the Model 71 High Grade is now primarily sought after by collectors who value both its historical significance and visual appeal. As a modern reproduction of a classic American lever-action, it successfully bridges the gap between tradition, performance, and presentation.
