Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
In the late 1950s, Remington Arms sought to develop a .22 rimfire semi-automatic rifle that could be produced cost-effectively, with minimal machining and hand-fitting. The result was the Nylon 66—a groundbreaking design in which the rifle’s stock also functioned as the receiver, securing the bolt, trigger assembly, and barrel. Unlike traditional long guns, where the receiver, barrel, and bolt can be removed from the stock as a single unit, the Nylon 66 integrated these components directly into the stock itself.

Introduced in 1959, the Nylon 66 took its name from DuPont’s designation for the synthetic polymer used in its construction. The stock was cast in two halves and bonded together to form a durable, rigid frame that required little to no fitting during assembly. It was the first mass-produced rifle to feature a stock made from a material other than wood, marking the beginning of Remington’s innovative Nylon series. Although considered a risky venture at the time, the Nylon 66 proved to be a commercial success and led to the development of several variants. One such variant was the Apache 77, a version produced exclusively for K-Mart between 1987 and 1989. Chambered in .22 LR, the Apache 77 shared its design with the Nylon 77 and 10C models but featured a distinctive seneca green stock paired with a matte black barrel and receiver. It is marked "Apache 77" on the grip cap, setting it apart as a unique and collectible member of the Nylon rifle family.
