The Smith & Wesson Model 17-6 is a collectible and highly regarded variant of the classic Model 17 “K-22 Masterpiece” — one of Smith & Wesson’s premier .22?Long Rifle target revolvers — produced roughly from 1990 through the early 1990s during the later years of that venerable line. Built on the medium-frame K-frame, the 17-6 maintains the Model 17’s reputation for smooth, precise double-action and crisp single-action trigger pulls, which have long made it a favorite of competitive target shooters and enthusiasts who value mechanical refinement in a rimfire wheelgun. Most 17-6 examples were fitted with a 6-inch barrel, though some were produced in 4-inch or 8?3/8-inch lengths, and certain guns feature a full underlug barrel that adds weight forward of the cylinder to reduce perceived recoil and improve balance, especially during lengthy range sessions.
