Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt Serpentine Series of 1994 is a highly coveted and rare collector's set, featuring three of Colt's most iconic revolvers: the Python, King Cobra, and Anaconda. Each revolver in this set is individually marked with the distinctive "Serpentine Series of 1994" roll mark on the barrel and stamped with the "1 of 50" designation on the frame, highlighting its limited production—only 50 sets were ever made. The set represents the pinnacle of Colt's craftsmanship and engineering during this era, with the Python's legendary precision, the King Cobra's rugged design, and the Anaconda's robust build, capable of handling powerful Magnum loads. The revolvers come in their original factory hard cases and paper box sleeves, complete with original factory paperwork, making them a true time capsule of Colt's finest work. The Serpentine Series is not only a symbol of Colt's commitment to quality but also a rare opportunity for collectors to own a piece of firearms history, as only 17 of the original 50 sets are known to remain intact today.

PYTHON
Smith & Wesson’s dominance in the .357 Mag. market changed forever in 1955; however, when Colt introduced its first revolver chambered in .357 Mag: the Python. By all accounts, Colt executives also considered this to be the finest revolver the company produced at the time. No expense was spared in the manufacturing process, from the revolver’s timing and lock-up to its Royal Blue finish, this would be the pinnacle of Colt’s manufacturing prowess and remains—to this day—one of the finest revolvers ever made, no matter the caliber. Originally, it was introduced in Colt’s spectacular Royal Blue finish with a 6-inch-barrel length. Most folks will tell you that a vent rib on a gun barrel is for heat dispensation to maintain accuracy without being thrown off by the wiggly, mirage-like blurriness caused by excessive heat rising off the barrel. That all makes sense, but the designer of the Python, Al Gunther, stated that the vents were primarily there to reduce the gun's weight. The gun originally had a hollow barrel lug also to reduce weight, but it still came in at 43 ounces. Eventually, the barrel lugs were made solid to add weight to the gun at the barrel end.

Subsequently, the Python was offered in 2.5-, 3-, 4-, 6- and 8-inch barrel lengths, and some 8-inch Pythons came factory equipped with a hunting scope, making the Python the first revolver to be equipped—out of the box—ready for hunting. The incorporation of Colt Accro and Elliason rear sights allowed the gun to be zeroed for both windage and elevation. The oil-finished, checkered American walnut grips with the gold Colt medallion rounded out the presentation that came with a whopping $125 price tag—almost double the MSRP of Colt’s Trooper model. Demands were made for other finishes besides Royal Blue, so over the years, Colt offered the Python in Bright Nickel, satin electroless nickel known as "Coltguard," and in the early 1980s in satin stainless steel, and in bright mirror polished stainless steel, variously known as Bright Polish or Ultimate Polish. Between 1955, when it was introduced, and 1997, when production ceased for the first-generation Python, more than 750,000 were produced.

KING COBRA
In the early 1980s, the public preferred stainless steel revolvers. As a result, in 1986, Colt upgraded the Trooper Mark V by making it stainless steel and changing the barrel to a full under-lug-shrouded type. The only difference between the Mark V and the new model was the barrel profile and the use of stainless steel. Colt named the new model the King Cobra, following its tradition of naming revolvers after snakes. For the first time, a Cobra head was included in the barrel stamp, breaking from the tradition of only having the name and caliber stamped on it. The King Cobra was the first revolver model introduced in stainless steel before a blued version. A blued model was introduced a year later.

Like the Trooper Mark III and Mark V, the King Cobra was designed to be a durable and robust revolver specifically constructed for unlimited use with Magnum ammunition. It was available with barrels of 2 1/2", 3" (limited), 4", 6", and 8". Its caliber was .357 Magnum. Finishes included satin stainless steel, bright polish stainless, and bright blue. The grips were either Pachmayr "Gripper" with gold Colt medallions, Vintage Industry copies of the Pachmayer Gripper, made for Colt with silver medallions, or checkered walnut with gold medallions. The front sights had red inserts, with white outlined rear sights. In 1997, the King Cobra was enhanced, coming standard with a drilled frame and tapped for a scope mount. It also had a larger cylinder release and a recessed muzzle. At the same time, the option of having the barrel ported with recoil-reducing barrel ports was offered. The production history of the King Cobra was turbulent. It was introduced in 1986, discontinued in 1992, resumed in 1994, and discontinued for the last time in 1998.

ANACONDA
The Colt Anaconda, introduced in 1990, marked the return of Colt's large-frame double-action revolvers after the discontinuation of the New Service in 1942. Based on the successful King Cobra design, the Anaconda featured a stainless steel construction and a transfer bar ignition-safety action, specifically engineered to handle the powerful .44 Magnum round. With a massive forged frame and heat-treated cylinder, it was built for maximum strength and durability. The Anaconda was chambered in both .44 Magnum and .45 Long Colt, with barrel lengths offered in 4", 6", and 8", while a rare 5" version was also produced but not cataloged. Some models featured Magna-porting for reduced recoil and muzzle rise. Uniquely, the right side of the barrel was marked with the inscription "Double Action Revolver," while other models were stamped with ".44 Magnum Cartridge." Finishes included satin stainless, bright polished stainless, and a limited edition in Realtree camouflage. Produced from 1990 to 1999, the Anaconda was reintroduced as a Colt Custom Shop special order model from 2002 to 2006, cementing its place as a legendary firearm for collectors and enthusiasts alike.
