Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Marlin Model 512 Slugmaster is a bolt-action, 12-gauge rifled-barreled slug gun that Marlin introduced in 1994 and produced through the mid-to-late 1990s; it was built specifically for accurate single-projectile performance (deer hunting and other slug-only uses) rather than traditional shotshell patterns. It features a 21-inch fully rifled barrel, a two-round detachable box magazine and a receiver drilled and tapped for scope mounting (Marlin commonly shipped or recommended an optics package with the rifle), plus an adjustable rear sight for iron-sight use. The stock is a rifle-style wood with pressed checkering and a ventilated recoil pad, the chamber accepts 3" shells, and the assembled weight is roughly 8 pounds—features that make it feel and handle more like a compact rifle than a conventional shotgun. Marlin discontinued the model after a relatively short production run in the late 1990s; however, the 512 remains notable among bolt-action slug guns for its combination of detachable-magazine convenience, scoped-rifle ergonomics, and factory rifled barrel.
