Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt Anaconda represents Colt’s return to the large-frame double-action revolver market after a nearly five-decade hiatus following the discontinuation of the New Service in 1942. Introduced in 1990, the Anaconda was built on the proven King Cobra design and featured a robust transfer bar safety system. Crafted entirely from stainless steel, this revolver was engineered for the rigorous demands of the .44 Magnum cartridge while also being chambered in .45 Long Colt. Its massive forged frame and heat-treated cylinder were specifically designed to provide maximum strength and durability, allowing for extensive use with high-powered ammunition. Barrel lengths ranged from 4” and 6” to the less common 5” and 8” options, with some models featuring magna-porting to reduce recoil and muzzle rise. The Anaconda was distinguished not only by its engineering but also by its finishes and markings, which included satin stainless, bright polished stainless, and Realtree camouflage patterns. The right side of the barrel was uniquely marked either “Double Action Revolver” or “.44 Magnum Cartridge” along with the standard “Colt’s P.T.F.A. Mfg Co. Hartford Conn. USA” inscription. Produced from 1990 to 1999, the Anaconda was later reintroduced from 2002 to 2006 as a Colt Custom Shop special order, allowing collectors and enthusiasts to acquire a finely crafted, large-frame revolver with the legendary Colt heritage and modern performance enhancements.
