Item Description
Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this RARE double-action revolver today for a penny-start auction; this is the Colt Anaconda that has been Factory Ported.
The factory-ported Colt Anaconda represents one of the most uncommon and performance-oriented configurations of Colt’s flagship large-frame revolver. While the Anaconda is already respected for its robust construction, smooth action, and ability to handle heavy .44 Magnum loads, factory porting elevates it into a far more specialized category. Unlike aftermarket porting, factory-executed ports were performed under Colt specifications and quality control, making documented examples significantly scarcer. The porting was designed to reduce muzzle rise and perceived recoil, allowing faster follow-up shots and improved controllability—features especially valued by handgun hunters and serious magnum shooters. From a collector standpoint, a factory-ported Anaconda carries strong appeal because it combines low production numbers with a clearly identifiable factory performance option that was not widely ordered; most Anacondas left the factory in standard, non-ported configuration, and many were later modified aftermarket. As interest continues to grow in classic Colt double-action revolvers, particularly large-frame magnums, original factory-ported Anacondas stand out as both highly capable shooters and premium collectibles, offering a rare blend of documented factory modification, enhanced shootability, and Colt’s hallmark craftsmanship.
A factory-ported, first-generation Colt Anaconda in true New Old Stock condition with the complete factory package (original box/case, manuals, hang tags/paperwork, and untouched finish) is exceptionally hard to find because most Anacondas from the original production era (1990–2003) were bought as working magnums and saw range time, hunting carry, or storage wear, while the fragile “paper” items and boxes were commonly discarded over the decades. Factory-ported examples are a niche subset to begin with—often called out specifically in higher-end listings and auctions—so pairing that uncommon configuration with unfired/NOS condition and the box + documents is where scarcity becomes extreme, and it’s exactly why complete “NIB/NOS with manual/hang tag/box” ported Anacondas get singled out as premium collector finds when they appear.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
In 1942, Colt discontinued its large-frame double-action revolver, the New Service. Colt would not build another large-frame model until 1990, when it introduced the Colt Anaconda. The Anaconda was a stainless steel revolver based on the proven King Cobra revolver design, using a transfer bar ignition-safety action. The Anaconda was designed for unlimited use of .44 Magnum ammo and had a massive forged frame and cylinder heat treatment to provide maximum strength. It was chambered in the .44 Magnum and the .45 Long Colt. Barrel lengths were 4", 5" (Rare and not cataloged), 6", and 8". Magna-porting for the barrel was offered on some versions. Unusually, the right side of the barrel was marked "Double Action Revolver" and the usual "Colt's P.T.F.A. Mfg Co. Hartford Conn. USA" on some models, and ".44 Magnum Cartridge" and "Colt's P.T.F.A. Mfg Co. Hartford Conn. USA," on other models. Finishes were satin stainless matte finish, bright polish stainless on some models, and in Realtree Camouflage. The Anaconda was produced from 1990 to 1999, then reintroduced from 2002 to 2006 as a Colt Custom Shop special order model.
