This example remains New Old Stock, showing no evidence of consumer use or handling whatsoever.
According to the included factory Colt letter, this Colt Special Lady revolver (serial# SV8953) is a .38 Special, 2" barreled example finished in bright stainless with black composition grips. The letter notes it was furnished with a bobbed hammer, its action was tuned for a smooth double-action trigger pull, and it was fitted with fixed sights. It was shipped to RSR Wholesale West, 4700 Aircenter Circle, Reno, Nevada, on February 27, 1997. The factory correspondence also indicates that approximately 600 Special Lady revolvers were produced.
According to our research, in 1996, although Colt had planned a special run of 600 Special Lady revolvers, only about 250 were actually produced, making these bright stainless, double-action-only revolvers an exceedingly rare and highly sought-after example of Colt’s craftsmanship in small-frame design.

The Colt Special Lady traces its roots to Colt’s mid-1990s SF-VI small-frame program—a modern, stainless-steel reimagining of the classic Detective Special concept that married Colt tradition with more economical, contemporary manufacturing. The SF-VI frame was engineered to retain the compact silhouette and six-shot capacity familiar to D-frame devotees while introducing a transfer-bar safety ignition system and a compact “vee” mainspring arrangement. Finished in stainless steel and offered with streamlined ergonomics and practical grip options, the platform was designed to deliver the handling and balance of Colt’s small revolvers in a corrosion-resistant, duty-ready package. Available in short (2") and a limited number of 4" barrel configurations, the SF-VI family presented a scaled-down King Cobra-style presence with modernized internals and a clean, contemporary look. The Special Lady represents a very limited, polished-stainless expression of the SF-VI line—an elegant, double-action-only variant finished to a mirror polish and distinguished by the removal of the hammer spur for a smooth, snag-free profile.
