The Ruger No. 1 is a single-shot rifle known for its elegant design and exceptional strength, featuring a Farquharson-style hammerless falling-block action. Manufactured by Sturm, Ruger & Co. since its introduction in 1967, the No. 1 was designed to blend classic aesthetics with modern engineering, paying homage to traditional British single-shot sporting rifles while incorporating Ruger’s reputation for rugged reliability. The No. 1 operates via an underlever mechanism, which, when lowered, causes the breechblock to drop vertically and expose the chamber for loading. This same motion automatically cocks the internal striker, preparing the rifle to fire once the action is closed. The design is widely regarded for its simplicity, strength, and relatively quick follow-up loading for a single-shot rifle, qualities appreciated by hunters and precision-minded shooters alike.
