Item Description
Bryant Ridge Co. is pleased to present this scarce double/single-action revolver today for a penny-start auction, this is the Colt Custom Shop Magnum Carry “1st Edition!"
The Magnum Carry is the Rare sister model to such classics as the Python, King Cobra, DS-II, SF-VI, and Detective Special!
The Magnum Carry 1st Edition stands as the most coveted variation of the model, instantly identifiable by its distinctive “MAGNUM CARRY 1ST EDITION” barrel roll-mark. Introduced at the very start of production, these early revolvers have taken on an almost mythic presence among Colt enthusiasts. Their short production run, combined with their unique markings and first-batch provenance, has elevated the 1st Edition to near-legend status. Collectors especially prize them not only for their rarity, but also for what they represent: Colt’s brief return to high-quality small-frame revolvers during a transitional era for the company. As a result, the Magnum Carry 1st Edition remains one of the most sought-after modern Colt revolvers, highly valued by collectors who appreciate both craftsmanship and collecting significance.

Bryant Ridge's Analysis:
The Colt Magnum Carry was introduced as Colt’s final newly released double-action revolver, built as a strengthened member of the SF-VI/DS-II small-frame series. Constructed of stainless steel, it used the same transfer-bar safety and ignition system found on all Colt revolvers made after 1969. Still, it incorporated a slightly thickened top strap and higher heat-treating to handle the increased pressures of the .357 Magnum cartridge—making it the first small-frame Colt ever chambered for a full-power magnum round. The model was offered primarily with a 2-inch barrel, though a small number of 3-inch examples are known, and featured a satin-stainless finish with a few scarce bright-polish guns. Colt equipped the Magnum Carry with pebble-textured Hogue Mono-Grips made specifically for the model, which provide excellent control despite its compact size.

Produced only during 1999, a year in which Colt was facing significant financial strain that led to the discontinuation of nearly all double-action revolvers except the Python and Anaconda, the Magnum Carry had an extremely short manufacturing run. As a result, and owing to its combination of size, strength, and true .357 Magnum capability, the Magnum Carry has become highly sought after by both collectors and shooters seeking a powerful, compact concealed-carry revolver.
